Hello everyone! As I am still new to this whole automotive scene, I have been learning more—especially regarding electric cars. After a year of waiting, I recently learned the electric Ford Explorer is formally for sale! When the cheaper model comes in, it will set you back less than $53,000; moreover, it can run up to 374 miles on a single charge, which sounds pretty good to me!

Apparently, some new import regulations caused the launch to be postponed; Ford used the extra time to make improvements, particularly by installing a new battery that extended the range from 311 miles to 374 miles. That is a pretty significant leap.

Starting around $61,000, this model has a single motor with extended range and a 77kWh battery allowing it to run from 0-62mph in 6.4 seconds. A bit faster (0-62mph in 5.3 seconds), the twin-motor, four-wheel-drive variant has a slightly shorter range at 329 miles.

For those who enjoy towing (I'm not here yet!), it can pull up to 1200kg, which is rather amazing.

They also intend to introduce a less expensive variant with less power and a smaller battery (52kWh), which will help to bring the cost down to about $53,000. For at least me, that sounds more within range!

Features-wise, there are just two main options to choose from. A panoramic roof and a driver assist pack, which has a hands-free boot, head-up display, and 360-degree parking camera. There are two trims to the Explorer, the Select and Premium. Even some of the most basic models have wireless phone charging, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel! The Premium also has additional features including a sound system, ambient lighting, and headlights not likely to blind other drivers.

Should I keep searching? or does this sound like a decent first electric car?

The electric Ford Explorer appears to be an excellent choice for a first electric vehicle. With a 374-mile range and reasonable pricing, it provides excellent value. Wireless phone charging and the driver assist pack are excellent features for both convenience and safety. As someone new to electric vehicles, you might want to consider how this model compares to others in terms of range and performance. However, given its range, performance, and features, the Explorer could be an excellent starting point. What do others think? Are there any additional insights or advice?

It seems someone has done his homework on the Ford Explorer, haha!
Yeah, definitely, considering the range and features, it could be a great first EV. I like some modern conveniences about it, like wireless charging and advanced safety options.
Before everything, I would test drive it and compare it with other options out there. Do you consider other models?

Haha, yeah, I’ve been doing my best to learn as much as I can about it! Well not just this one, but I gotta get started on some EVs. The range and features are what really stood out to me. Who doesn’t love wireless charging and all those safety features? but hey, seems like Ford really put a lot into this.

But! You’ve got a good point. I should take it for a test drive before getting too excited. I want to make sure it’s the right fit for me. I’ve looked at a couple of other options, like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and maybe even the Tesla Model Y, but I haven’t decided yet. i'm mostly confused on the differences.

Ioniq 5 and Model Y? Interesting! What would make you choose the Explorer over the other them?
